Shwetha in Rathi Nirvedam remake

Renowned model, television anchor and actress Shwetha Menon, who refused the lead role in the remake of I.V. Sasi’s 1978 classic Avalude Ravukal, has agreed to star in the remake of legendary filmmakers Padmarajan-Bharathan’s classic Rathi Nirvedam (1978).

The original, starring Jayabharathi and Krishnachandran in the lead, will be remade in Malayalam by veteran producer Suresh Kumar. Shwetha will don Jayabharathi’s role. Shwetha refused Avalude Ravukal, as its makers announced her name without her consent. The Rathi Nirvedam remake will be directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar and the shoot will start in Nilambur.

Rathi Nirvedam revolves around a school boy Pappu in a small village, who falls in love with an older girl from the neighborhood Rathi (Jayabharathi). The girl resists his advances in the beginning, but gradually gives in and consummates the relationship on a wet stormy night. From that day, their lives change dramatically. Rathi Nirvedam was one of the many ‘A’ certified Malayalam movies in the 70s.
