Kick is a well knit tale about a guy who loves challenges and cannot live without getting a ‘kick’ out of doing things.

The film is a typical Ravi Teja entertainer with enough comedy that keeps the audience breaking into laughter every now and then. Ravi Teja and Ileana have paired up once again after Khatarnak. This time though they managed to come up with a much better output.

Kalyan (Ravi Teja) is an engineering graduate who never sticks to one job and keeps quitting jobs one after the other as he does not get enough ‘Kick’ in them.

He also gets the support of his father (Sayaji Shinde) in this. The hero meets the heroine in rather strange circumstances where the heroine’s friend had run away from home to get married to her car driver.

The car driver (Venu Madhav) turns out to be a friend of Ravi Teja. He informs the girl’s mother about the elopement, and says that unless there is some tension and drama, there will not be any ‘Kick’ in eloping and getting married.

Naina (Ileana) initially hates Ravi Teja but slowly falls in love with him. But after about a month, Ileana leaves him as he had quit his job once again, but keeps a secret from her.

Ileana goes off to Malaysia where her parents find a match for her in a boy named Shyam, a big police officer. During their introduction, Naina tells Kalyan Krishna (Shyam) about her failed love affair.

Kalyan Krishna also tells Naina about a robber who is evading him, who incidentally turns out to be Kalyan.

Once while Kalyan Krishna is in hot pursuit of Kalyan, Naina spots him, but Kalyan acts as if he had lost his memory and is undergoing treatment in Malaysia.

Seeing this, Naina who hates Kalyan wants to take revenge on him by marrying Shyam. The real game starts when Kalyan, Naina, Shyam and even Halwaraj (Brahmanandam) have their own scores to settle.

The audiences are all in dark as to why Kalyan turns a robber. The film then winds up with the director trying to give enough justification to the robber character of Kalyan.

Performance wise, Ravi Teja and Ileana have done well. Ravi Teja does justice to his carefree character and is an expert in portraying such roles repeatedly in films after films.

Ileana makes a come back after a long gap with the film. She is still as sexy as ever and the director exploits her charm and sex appeal to the hilt. Tamil actor Shyam is okay in the role of a cop.

Brahmanandam does his trademark comedy in the film, while Ali as a memory loss patient does manage to generate some laughs. Jayaprakash Reddy playing a comedian cop is okay.

Yesteryears heroine Prabha makes a comeback after a very long gap. Sayaji Shinde has done justice to his brief role as Ravi Teja’s father in the film.

The director has come up with a thoughtful storyline and though the presentation is neat, the narrative could have been better. The dialogues are good, with the neatly written script and screenplay.

Background score is good but the songs did not have that energy in them. Cinematography is impressive, editing is crisp, costumes are perfect and the art department has done their job with tremendous output.

Kick is a entertainer with all ingredients such as romance, comedy, sentiment and action. But still, it falls short and ends up being an average entertainer. The film with its ingredients for a masala movie has some thriller element in it. However, the makers could not maintain the thrill film in the movie.

The first half passes off peacefully, but the second half is even slower. Though the story picks up late in the movie and culminates into a neat climax.

The film has been made well but it could have better scenes. Overall, since there are no other movies in sight now, ‘Kick’ being a paisa vasool movie will definitely have a good run at the box office.

Director Meher Ramesh’s Prabhas-Anushka starrer Billa is the fifth remake of 70’s Bollywood thriller Don, starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. After Don was released in Hindi, the film was remade in Tamil as Billa with superstar Rajinikanth in 1980. Later, the same was remade in Telugu with NTR. In 2006 and 2008, the modern version of Don was remade by Shahrukh Khan in Hindi (Don 2) and by Ajith in Tamil (Billa). Notably, all Don movies were super hits in the history of Indian cinema and Prabas’ latest Telugu film Billa may not be an exception!

Does Billa actually need a story introduction? Meher Ramesh’s Billa is exactly like Shahrukh Khan’s Don or Ajith’s Billa. The story begins with ACP Krishnamurthy (Krishnamraju), who is very keen on catching the one and only underworld criminal Billa (Prabhas). Billa keeps on escaping whenever the cops try to catch him. He is flanked by his gang including girlfriend Lisa (Namitha), henchmen Ranjith (Supreeth) and Vijay (Subbaraju). Maya (Anushka) joins their gang; her only intention is to kill Billa, since he killed her brother Vijay.

In the meantime, Krishnamurthy manages to corner Billa and in the shootout, Billa dies. Frantic to learn more about Billa’s major deals with Rashid Khan (Kelly Dorji), Krishnamurthy looks for an idea and finds Ranga (Prabhas), a look-alike of Billa. Ranga, a petty thief, lives at Vizag with two kids. Krishnamurthy convinces Ranga to take the place of Billa and takes him to Malaysia. Their plan is partly successful, but Krishnamurthy gets killed. This lands Ranga in trouble. How he manages to come out of all these problems and nab the criminals forms the rest of the story.

Prabhas, who plays the two main characters (the underworld criminal Billa and his look-alike Ranga), has come up with a very impressive performance; his act as Ranga is more impressive than as Billa. However, he suits the role of a stylish don too. He teams up with three actresses (Anushka, Hansika and Namitha), who compete equally with each other, be it for glamour or style. Krishnamraju’s performance, who appears in a full length character on the big screen after a long gap, is another highlight. Rehman is stylish, but could have been more intense with his performance.

Coming to the technical aspects, the director has taken up a proven subject. However, his narrative is mediocre. The script is not written with intensity and the dialogues miss the punch. Cinematography by Soundara Rajan is above average, but there is scope for more. The film takes off in rather poor style with not much to look forward to, but eventually it picks up in an interesting way, especially in the second half. The music is peppy, dances adequately choreographed and action appropriately filmed on location in Malaysia. This happens to be the remake of the Tamil blockbuster Billa and it must be said that the Tamil version was excellent!

‘Drona’ is a rehash of the story with bit of changes here and there. Starring Nithin, Priyamani in the lead cast, J Karuna Kumar has debuted as director with this film, presented by D Saraswathi and produced by DS Rao on Saikrishna Productions banner.

Story

Drona (Nithin) is the only son of Mukhesh Rushi and Sita. Drona’s father Mukesh Rushi is an honest and dedicated Police officer. Drona likes his mother Meenakshi (Sita) so much and love her as his own life. When he was a child Drona steals his father’s revolver to scare his friends. On knowing this his father scolds him, consequently Drona leaves his home and gets lost.

After 10 years, he comes back to his parents with the name Chandu. A Neighboring girl Indu (Priyamani) likes Drona/Chandu a lot. On a fateful day, she finds out that Chandu is none other than the long lost boy, Drona.

What are the consequences that made Drona to comeback after 10 years and get introduce in a disguise? Why was Sarkar group searching for Drona? To get the answers watch ‘Drona’ on screen.

Performance of Cast

Nithin looks determined on screen to taste success and has dedicated himself to come out with a slick performance. He has succeeded in his attempt but the long known vintage plot drags his meticulous trails back and doesn’t reap what is expected out of it.

More than Priyamani, her body acts in the film with abundant glamour in almost all scenes. She has been roped in to give the oomph factor and it does bolster the movie.

Mukhesh Rushi and Sita as Nithins parents gave a good performance. *Kelly Dodge, debuted as a villain with ‘Don’ (Nagarjuna starrer), he has appreciably portrayed the role of Sarkar. Dr.SivaPrasad also did well as Mama. Raghubabu, Sunil, Venu Madhav as Nalla Balu, have done well within the scope of their roles. Bob Anthony as Dange has displayed some good acting skills this time around.

Work of the Crew

Anup Rubens, the music director of ‘Jai’ scores in the background music but it’s a disappointing act when it comes to the songs. The numbers are badly orchestrated and are a major con for the film.

Photography by Bhupathi is beautiful and riveting. Art director Prakash’s work is laudable with the construction of the Den set and for the songs. Fights composed by Selvam Prakash have a touch of realism and is neat. Editing by Gautham Raju is average. Overall, the making value of SaiKrishna Productions is good.

Director’s Portrayal

The director has earlier worked in the direction division of SS Rajamouli and debuted as a director with ‘Drona’. The way he rendered the story line is good but the story is a stale and creates a feel of Deja vu. The director relied more on action and glamour rather than the script which is the heart for any movie. His efforts should be appreciated but it’s a big question if it will bring the audience to cinema halls to make the movie a hit.

Criticism

‘Rakshasudu’ starring Chiranjeevi and Radha was a super hit film of those times and ‘Drona’, the new comer in the same line is disappointing. The storyline has not been properly altered to suit present society and the director has missed to make changes in it.

Flicking a story from the past is not new nowadays, but a sensible filmmaker will surely make his director’s touch felt in the script which will make it a big hit if rehashed. But, the makers of ‘Drona’ didn’t do it and this negligence won’t go unnoticed which will cost them bitterly. Karuna Kumar should rework his skills and make a better comeback next time.

For Nithin, alas! What can we say expect it’s a sad disappointment for the actor who looked forward eagerly to a hit. Let’s hope he gets lucky next time.

Story :
Siddarth Varma (Siddarth) is free-spirited guy and lives with his mother Rajayalakshmi (Ramyakrishna), a college professor. His father Prakash (Prakash), a rich businessman, is separated from his mother. Geeta (Tamannah) comes to Hyderabad for higher studies and stays with her relative Gachchibowli Diwakar (Brahmanandam). Geeta and Siddarth have common group of friends and their acquaintance slowly turns into romance. When Siddarth approaches Geeta’s father (Nasser) seeking his daughter for marriage, he refuses to accept their love. He asks how can he give away his daughter to a family, which is broken. Now both the lovers take up the task to unite Rajaylakshmi and Prakash. Finally Siddhardh & expectations of audiences .Tamanna comibiation not reached.

Analysis :

It is a love story but showed differently. This film was a good family entertainer . I think it is a looking like Bommarillu movie. Because some many seens are very nearly to bommarillu movie. Konchem Istam Konchem Kastam strikes right chord with audiences. It is worth a dekko for its clean romance, interesting screenplay, great visuals, and good climax and not to forget the neat performances by the lead actors. New director Kishore blends love and sentiment drama perfectly. His handling of second-half and climax sequences has made the difference to this love-story. What strikes in the movie in the first place are its bright visuals (very excellent camera work by Vijay Chakravarthy). And then the lead pair’s chemistry – Siddardh and Tamanna are really a cute pair – makes the audiences to involve in the movie. The movie has very urban setting and the treatment is also urbane. Despite all these positive points, the film doesn’t rise to the level of ‘outstanding flick’. On the whole it ends up just a good romantic entertainer. It has its flaws too. Length (with nearly 2.50 minutes) is its biggest sore point. Music on the screen is very weak except for one or two songs. And also lacks entertainment.
Its is Above AVERAGE Movie.

Performances :

Siddarth looks very handsome than ever. His character is extension to the role that he has done in Bommarillu and NVNV. Like in these two movies, he goes through a ‘test’ to win his lover. Yet, like always, he comes out with good performances especially in the climax sequences. But the real scene-stealer is bewitching beauty Tamannah. She looks gorgeous and exhibits emotions rightly. With her girl-next-door dress sense, and depth in her performance attracts the audiences instantly. Her character is also well etched. Like Bhumika in Khushi, she is lovable and adamant.

Ever dependable Prakash Raju does the role of father to Siddarth for third time and he delivers goods. Ramyakrishna as mother to Siddhu gives matured performance. She looks beautiful too. Brahamanandam’s character as cricketer is unrelated to the story and lacks punch. It is Venumadhav who provides enough laughs and has good role to say. Nasser as caring father is okay.

Technically, Vijay Chakravarthy’s work catches the eye. His bright visuals bring positive mood to this romantic drama. Story is simple and straightforward but the screenplay ( Vikram Siri and Deepak Raj) has real depth. Yet, it drags on post–interval to some extent. Some of the dialogues by Abburi Ravi are heart touching. Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is not great. But lyrics have good meaning (Chandrabose, Sirivennela). They are good to listen but on screen, they lack punch. Except the Panchire Panchire song, no number makes impact and the choreography of the songs is also bad.

Producer Nallamalupu Srinivas has invested lot of money for rich look of the film. His production values are good. New director Kishore exhibits his talent in handling the sentiment and romantic scenes. He is here to stay.

The Bottom-line of the film Konchem Istam Konchem Kastam attracts the youth and family audiences. Interesting second half, very excellent cinematography and Tamannah are major assets of the movie. Length is its biggest flaw. New director Kishore blends love and sentiment drama perfectly. And Showed differently.

A marvelous tale, the film starts with Arundhati (Anushka) who lives in a city and her marriage is fixed with one Rahul (Arjan). She is considered the dearest of the family since she is the only female born after two generations and all the members treat her as Jejamma (Anushka).

She was once the ruler of the Gadwal region. However, a dark tale of flashback exists in the form of their own relative (Sonu Sood) who cons and gets married to Jejamma’s elder sister. He is a worst womanizer and drunkard.

Unable to bear this, his wife commits suicide and Jejamma gives him a punishment. Luckily he survives death and learns all the tricks of black magic only to re-emerge and from then on, he has only one mission- to get Jejamma but fails and she buries him alive with the required pujas and rituals.

Arundhati is coaxed by the locked up spirit. Finally, he manages to come out and takes a human form and wreaks havoc in Arundhati’s life, he lusts after her even now and wants to complete his revenge. Is he successful in that? Is Arundhati really the Jejamma that all are thinking? It forms the crux of the film.

Anushka is at her best with great performance and she reminds a lot of Jayaprada during her serious stills. Her emotions, expressions and the total contrast of the two roles have been depicted very well.

Sonu Sood was equally evil and he did his bit with required punch. Sayaji Shinde was full of energy and burnt the screen with his excellent role. Manorama was neat, Satyanarayana was mature, Subhashini was scary and the others did their bit to add value to the film.

The director has come out with a simple plot but then the entire credit goes to the presentation and fast paced narration. The script was written very well without loose ends, the screenplay was top notch. Dialogues were up to the mark and music played a lot of impact, two songs were worth relishing, the real hero here is the graphics team that has come out with some real good work especially during the climax and some of the horror scenes.

Cinematography was great. Editing was crisp and the costumes were grand. The other departments were perfect and spot on with their work.

While the first half goes about with the building of the plot and why all this is happening it is not until the interval that the true story comes out. The second half goes about with the high voltage action and culminates into a worthy climax. Here, the length was a bit dragged and that could have been avoided.

The film has come across with some really mind blowing graphics and presentation, even the performances were top notch that helped. While the drums scene is a take from the Chinese movie ‘House of Flying Daggers’ it was well taken and presented. The shock points are high and one can say that the film is definitely not for the weak hearted. There are enough chilling moments to shake the audience off their chair. The film is one of the best made ever in the history of Telugu cinema in terms of technical values so it deserves to be a good hit.
