When story ideas dry up, filmmakers in Malayalam find refuge in some strange territories in Tamil Nadu!

Movie making had always been a meticulous creative affair that always demanded a lot of hard work, good careful planning and execution from a multitude of departments, associated with each production. But here in Mollywood, a group of so called technicians is trying to make a mocking point that, film making is not always a work of intelligence, but can waver down to anywhere to a child’s play. What we are talking is about the new Mohanlal movie that managed to reach the theaters this week-Bhagavan.

A gang of fearless high profile funky girls and their misadventures had been the main theme of quite a few numbers of films in the recent times. Closely following the likes of the ‘Red Chillies’, ‘Chinthamani Colacase’ and Hollywood hits like ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ and ‘Posers’ is, seasoned actor turned director Adv Babu Raj’s debut flick ‘Black Dahlia’. Titled after the famous mystery work, the movie qualifies as a well made thriller, though you won’t see much in difference from the earlier mentioned prototypes. The ambitious thriller succeeds in maintaining its non- prediction values till the last reel, but suffers from below par performances from a reasonably fresh cast of newcomers and inevitable comparisons with the similar stuffs.

Can youth films with a subtle message work besides providing entertainment? To get the answer to this question, you have to watch ‘Josh’ the ambitious project of SV Babu that took one and half years to be made by director of technical excellence in Kannada cinema Shivamani.

Kick is a well knit tale about a guy who loves challenges and cannot live without getting a ‘kick’ out of doing things.
