R.Kannan, an understudy of Maniratnam makes his debut into direction with ‘Jayam Kondaan.’

Donning the role of an honest cop is indeed a dream of most of the actors in Kollywood. Vishal has fulfilled it in ‘Sathyam’, a usual cat and rat story, however with interesting twists and turns from beginning to end.

There is an old saying in tinsel town: Never try to remake a classic. Rajinikanth’s Kuselan is a mixed bag, but director P Vasu has been able to evoke the essence of the original Katha Parayumbol from Malayalam to a certain extent.

This is director Sasikumar’s maiden venture. He has deviated from the clichéd plot and relied on realism. Films like this come as a whiff of fresh air when Tamil cinema has become synonymous with commercial ‘tamasha’ which is worse than ‘masala’. “Subramaniyapuram” is a slick package with full of fun and suspense.

This Onam season, Mollywood seems to be  suddenly re-discovering  its golden touch, turning inwards for inspiration as our scriptwriters come up with one good film after another. As anyone of the Kerala citizen who was increasingly  bombarded with bundles of  politically animated news concerning the death of Naxalite Varghese, from its 20 0dd TV channels, I approached ‘Thalappavu’, with high expectations  to see what  the film offers on the plot .And, on the whole, I was not disappointed with this understated   political movie. Actor Madhupaal, who is turning director with the movie,  proves his competence  in the medium and provides an accomplished debut as a promising  director  through  this dramatic account of the  real life story.
