Pazhassi Raja

pazhasirajaHariharan, MT Vasudevan Nair and Mammootty’s exhilarating epic Pazhassi Raja is a monumental film, one that will be treasured for years to come. It is a gutsy and outstanding film from the masters, a movie that goes beyond the message.

Robinhood

robinhoodRobinhood, like all other recent biggies, have its source material from the comic book – all about men indulging in crimes, but for a cause. It is definitely the huge experience of veteran Joshy, that seems to have helped the new movie to end up as a safer fare. Planted on an illogical theme of ATM robbery, that too in a mass and regular scale (……..with the help of decoding the emitted electromagnetic signals that arise when some one swaps their cards), ‘Robinhood’ could have ended up as a too silly fare, but for the technical and narrative finesse of its director.

Loud Speaker

loud-speakerIt is perhaps the innate goodness in the theme that works in favour of Jayaraj’s Loud Speaker. With Mammootty playing an uneducated but refreshingly honest villager and media personality Sasi Kumar as an urbane but virtuous NRI, the film has a genuine theme to narrate. Still there are times when one gets the feeling that these advantages have not been used to the fullest.

Kaanakanmani

kanmaniAfter the mega success of Veruthe Oru Bharya, depicting the novel story of a housewife overburdened by routine household chores, director Akku Akbar is back with yet another commendable family story Kaanakanmani, starring Jayaram once again in the lead role alongside Padmapriya and Baby Nivedita. This time, the director raises his voice for the rights and justice of unborn children, whose lives were terminated by their parents at hospital tables. The film does not directly preach or argue against abortion, but on the other hand, it tries to interpret things from the victim’s point of view emotionally and ethically! Kaanakanmani is not a tearjerker, but capable of touching the depth of all hearts with its intelligent narration and serious theme.

Daddy Cool

Daddy-CoolLet’s admit it…..Films can be made watchable, even though they does not offer a genuine strong storyline. ‘Daddy Cool’ is one such effort from the debutante Aashiq Abu planned with trendy costumes, bright colours and amazing visuals. Had it been decorated with a thick screenplay, it would have ended up as an eminently watchable fare. For now, it has the chic packaging, peppy songs and racy first half which may cater to youth and family.
